Flavours of Stratford

For those who have a passion and a love for culinary arts or simply love a great meal, the city’s Flavors of Stratford tours should definitely be on their to-do list. Wander through the town and visit a variety of unique shops and speak with their owners and artisans on this walking tour. Sample cheeses, breads, chocolates, preserves, coffees, teas and oils that are both sourced and locally produced goodies. Walk, talk and eat on this mouthwatering tour of Stratford. There are a variety of tours available on weekends including A Very Tasty Trek (Thursdays and Saturdays 9:30 a.m.) and Fabulous Food and Great Gadgets (Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays 1:45 p.m.). All tours start at the Stratford Tourism office located at 47 Downie Street, which is a four-minute drive and 25-minute walk from the Avon Place Apartments.

Stratford Festival

Skip the movie theatre and expose yourself to true theatrical talent at the Stratford Festival. Performing arts have always been a keystone is Stratford’s community and they continue to introduce new and exciting plays every year. There are different plays running each night of the week. On Friday evenings, you can lose yourself in the world of Antony and Cleopatra, Man of La Mancha, The Beaux’ Stratagem and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Saturday shows include King Lear, King John, Masks, Madness & Sonnets, while Sunday offers up Crazy for You, Alice through the Looking-Glass and The Girl King. However, there are some performance overlaps throughout the week. There are even a variety of ways you can save on your tickets. The Stratford Festival located at 55 Queen Street is a seven-minute drive and a 41-minute walk from the apartments. Swans Guided Walking Tour

Learn all about these majestic birds while enjoying the stunning views of Stratford on the Swans Guided Walking Tour.  Let local experts teach you about the swans of Stratford, show you popular nesting locations and hear the history behind these creatures. Tickets are available for purchase online. Tickets are $7/per person (HST included) and the tour starts at 30 York Street on August 30th from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Visitors Centre is a four-minute drive and 27-minute walk from the Avon Place Apartments.

 

Ghosts of Stratford Walking Tour

If you’re looking for a spooky way to explore the city, the Ghosts of Stratford Walking Tour offers a nighttime glimpse of this charming city. Walk through Stratford’s historic residential district and talk with costumed guides about their strange pasts. Be sure to dress warmly, as tours continue to run in gloomy or rainy weather. Tickets, which are $20 for adults and $15 for children, are available before each tour and can also be purchased online. Tours start around 8:00 p.m. at Slave to the Grind located at 46 Ontario Street, which is a four-minute drive and 25-minute walk from the Avon Place Apartments.

The Shakespearean Gardens

Throughout the year and through every season, the five gardens that make up the Shakespearean Gardens are filled with stunning blossoms and musical accompaniment. Surrounded by the Perth County Courthouse and the oldest stone arch bridge in Ontario, the gardens are home to flowers, herbs and shrubs that date back to the time of Shakespeare. Many of these same plants were even mentioned in Shakespeare’s most noteworthy plays. Explore the stone walls, rose gardens and take a quick rest on the iron benches along the Avon River before you continue on your stroll. Wildwood Conservation Area

With 3,500 acres of land, Wildwood Conservation Area is an outdoor playground that offers its visitors exceptional amenities and activities. Boating, fishing, hiking, beach volleyball, canoe and kayak rentals, playground equipment and on-site washrooms are all features of the site’s Day Use Facilities. Turn that day of activities into a full weekend adventure by taking advantage of the seasonal campers, overnight campers and group camping facilities Wildwood offers. Located in St Marys, Ontario, the conservation area is a 14-minute drive from the Stratford Apartments.

 

Queens Park

Queens Park is located west of the Festival Theatres and features amenities that include a playground, picnic area, pavilion, concession booth and two band shells for outdoor performances during the summer. Located at 55 Queens Park Drive, the park is a nine-minute drive from the Avon Place Apartments. Take a relaxing stroll, jog or cycle through more than 15 kilometres of trails.
