Fall has fallen. The weather in Stratford is getting cooler and nothing goes better in the crisp fall weather than crisp fall apples. If you’re looking to spend some time outdoors, enjoying the fall air, what better way than with a trip to a family farm to pick a few fresh apples? The blog team at Williams and McDaniel has a few suggestions of farm orchards near Stratford and how to best enjoy the bounty once you get it home.

Appleland Station

Fill your basket with your favourite variety of fresh apples at Apple Land Station. It’s only 35 minutes by car from Avon Place. Hop on the farm train to the orchard and pick until your heart’s content. The train engineer will show you how to pick them and point you to your favourite variety. When you’re done with your pick, the train will be back to pick you up. You can also pick a pumpkin from the patch, get lost in the corn maze and more!

Orchard Home Farm

Orchard Home Farm is about an hour drive from Avon Place. Harvesting your own apples has never been easier. First, get directions from the orchard map and drive or walk right up to your favourite apple variety. You won’t even need a ladder because all apple varieties grow on kid-friendly “Dwarf” and “Semi-Dwarf” trees. Apple bags are provided and admission is free! They are open everyday from 9am to 7pm, including weekends and holidays.

Make a Pie

Now that you’ve got a big bag of apples, you’ll want to put them to good use. What could be better than an Old Fashioned Apple Pie? Cozy up this fall with a big warm slice. Store the remainder of your apples in the refrigerator.

Curl up with some cider

Spend a cool, crisp fall evening sipping some fresh homemade apple cider. Whether you prefer spiced, spiked or plain and simple, there is a cider recipe that is right for you.
